Well-being, methods of measuring well-being and their practical application

This thesis explores the topic of well-being in university students and related subjects, such as positive psychology, quality of life, and happiness. It introduces readers to the possible approaches of this concept and attempts to clearly define it's direction and purpose. One of the most well-known contemporary studies in this field is the Theory of Well-Being by American psychologist M. Seligman, through which the PERMA model was introduced. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to measure well-being in a randomly selected group of university students using a questionnaire survey method. Translated PERMA™ model questionnaire enriched with 4 additional questions and a questionnaire from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were used to obtain the data. The theoretical part also introduces research questions, which are subsequently answered in discussion based on the analysis and summary of individual data.
Coping of Stress and Life Events in Connection with Sense of Humor and Psychological Well-being

The theoretical part of the thesis mainly deals with the definition of humor, sense of humor, stress, life events and personal well-being and at the same time presents an overview of the basic theories related to these topics. The aim of the work is to look for individual links between mentioned topics. Primarily tries to highlight the positive impact of a sense of humor for coping with stress and life events. The research seeks to show a sense of humor as one of the coping strategies. The research seeks is based on processing the conclusions brought about a qualitative probe, based on in-depth interviews on a sense of humor and its connections with another variables. Qualitative analysis of verbal material suggests a sense of humor in connection with personal well-being and presents a sense of humor as one of the coping strategies of stress and life events. . Significant factors of quality of working life in terms of management in the nonprofit sector

This thesis deals with the issue of quality of work life (QWL), namely the important factors of QWL in terms of the management of non-governmental organizations (NGO). Perception of QWL has a positive effect on job satisfaction, personal well-being and job performance (its productivity and quality). The aim of this mapping study is to determine the important factors of QWL from the subjective perspective. Expert semistructured interviews were used for this purpose. The results indicate that the identified factors are identical with QWL mentioned by individual authors and institutions. The following factors were identified: absence of stress, interpersonal relationships in the workplace, support from the organization, evaluation of work, working environment. The positively evaluated factors include good relations in the workplace, need and utility of service, and self-actualization. The problematic working factors are financial conditions, obligations arising from the legislative framework, uncertainty about the sustainability of services, view of society and the low level of spatial facilities. The personal well-being at work of the probation officer

The work focuses on the personal well-being, specifically in the work environment, of officials of the Probation and Mediation Service at the center in Prague. The method of solving the problem is qualitative research, for which data were collected using prearranged interviews with randomly selected officials of the center. The aim of the research was to map individual areas of personal well-being for individual respondents. The method of comparison and contrast was used in the data analysis, the data are then interpreted and made clear in the created tables. The result of the research is more frequent positive comments from the respondents on the given topics, no significant difference was detected between people with a shorter and longer tenure at the center, in some opinions, center leaders differ from their subordinates or from officials with little work experience. In addition, deviant and contrasting answers appeared in the interviews. The validity of the data was subsequently discussed in the Discussion chapter, there is a possibility of distortion of the answers due to the recent relocation of the center or due to the questions presented to the respondent in advance. Activities supporting well-being of university teachers

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of well-being and well-being of university teachers. This topic is still not as common and popular in the Czech Republic as it is in the USA, for example. After distance learning in Czech schools, more and more people started talking and writing about the well-being of pupils and students, but teachers, especially university ones, are still forgotten. The aim of this thesis is to verify the functionality of evidence-based activities for university teachers that have a positive effect on their well-being. The theoretical part deals with health, well-being and factors influencing well-being. It also deals with the topic of quality of life. Finally, the theoretical part deals with selected problems of the teaching profession, both in general and with a direct focus on university teachers, whose well-being may be affected negatively. The practical part deals with mixed methods design, which aimed to determine the functionality of selected activities. Socio-economic status and its influence on the structure and level of personal well-being

The presented diploma thesis summarizes development of well-being and socioeconomic status conceptions by analyzing accesible vocational literature. The theoretical part is mainly focused on well-being and socioeconomic status (SES) in context and on searching for satisfactory explanation of relationship of those two variables. The attention in empirical part is devoted to examination the dependancy relationship between well-being and SES. We use Satisfaction with life scale (Diener et al., 1985) and The Ryff's scales of psychological well-being (Ryff, 1989) for measuring well-being. Socioeconomic status is deduced from income, education and occupational prestige. The existence of the dependancy relationship between income and well-being measured by RPWB was proven in our research sample (includes 213 respondents). The statistically significant differences between well-being (SWLS) were measured within group of people with elementary and high school education; and further within group of people with the lowest and highest income. However the relationship is sophistically structured and variety of dependent conditions is used rather than simple positive correlation. Thriving (glourishingg) of supra-national corporation manager

A managerial role place great challenges on the individual from the perspective of self- management, primarily considering the challenges of that role and individual needs and values. This dissertation discusses the potential for maintaining well-being when performing in a managerial role in a supra-national corporation. The focus is primarily on the idea of flourishing (thriving) defined by the American psychologist Martin Seligman. Flourish fundamentally includes subjective, hedonic elements (experiences of joy), as well as, eudaemonic quality built on the individual but for the wider community. Flourishing is closely linked to the self-concept of the individual; its content is subjective in character. Employment in a supra-national environment includes characteristics which may reduce the quality of this for an individual. This, mainly, involves constant adapting to change, working in a turbulent environment, collaborations encountering cultural differences (national and organisational), working in a matrix structure and/or frequent emphases on hedonism or consumerism. Subjective life satisfaction of children of 5th and 9th grade of primary schools in Hradec Králové

The aim of this thesis is to compare subjective life satisfaction of children at 5th and 9th grades of primary schools in Hradec Králové. The thesis focuses mainly on the way of spending their leisure time, satisfaction with the social contacts and family background, interacting in school, psychosomatic problems and addictive risks. The work compares the responses of individual years and gender of respondents. The thesis finds no significcant diferences between 5th and 9th grade.
